New Delhi: The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police’s Outer North District has arrested a 19-year-old suspect and recovered seven stolen two-wheelers in a major crackdown on vehicle theft. Acting on a tip-off and using technical surveillance, the police operation also helped solve several theft cases registered across different police station areas.

Outer North District DCP Shobhit D. Saxena said the police team received confidential information about the suspect and subsequently laid a trap near Sector 11, Rohini. The team apprehended Avinash alias Chhotu while he was riding a stolen Hero Splendor motorcycle.

Verification revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen from the Prashant Vihar police station area.

How Did the Police Uncover the Wider Theft Network?

During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that he had been involved in vehicle thefts along with an accomplice. Acting on his identification, the police recovered six additional two-wheelers from a vacant Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plot near Dwarikadhish Apartments in Sector 26, Rohini.

The recovered vehicles comprised four motorcycles and two scooters, taking the total number of stolen two-wheelers seized in the operation to seven.

According to the police, the recovered vehicles were linked to three cases in Samaypur Badli and one case each in Prashant Vihar, Alipur, Rani Bagh and Mangolpuri.

Senior Officers Supervised the Investigation

The operation was conducted under the direction of Joint Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Vijay Kumar, with guidance from Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-I Lokeshwaran R. and supervision by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Dinesh Kumar.

Inspector Anand Kumar Jha, in-charge of the AATS unit of Outer North District, led the team responsible for the operation.
